The Confucius Institute In Sofia And the Hunan Literature And Art Publishing House Have Held a Meeting On Translation And Publication Of Chinese Literature
On 24th February, 2025 the Confucius Institute in Sofia have held an online meeting with the Hunan Literature And Arts Publishing House (HLAPH) to discuss the translations and the publications of Chinese literature in Bulgaria. The meeting has been attended by the HLAPS's chief editorial officer Mrs Xia Si, the editors Mr Chen Xiaozhen and Mr Chen Zi, Mrs Aksiniya Koleva – the Bulgarian director of the Confucius Institute in Sofia, and Prof. Chen Ying – the Chinese director of CIS.
The publishing house have introduced the overall situation of the Chinese literary work ‘The Yellow Mud Street’and its author Can Xue, the characteristics of the literary work and its influence in China and abroad. They have expressed their hope to co-operate with the Confucius Institute in Sofia to promote the translation and the publication of the literary work in Bulgaria.
Prof.Chen Ying has introduced some representative examples of the achievements of the Confucius Institute in Sofia in their promoting the translations from Chinese into Bulgarian and their publishing, etc. She has said that she has been looking forward to introducing more pieces of excellent Chinese literature to Bulgarian readers and hoping to boost the cultural exchanges between China and Bulgaria. Both sides have discussed their future mode of cooperation.
Can Xue, whose real name is Deng Xiaohua, is a famous contemporary Chinese writer, considered a representative of the avant-garde literature, and a Chinese female writer who is currently the most translated and published Chinese author abroad. Her representative works include The Yellow Mud Street, The Five Fragrant Streets, The Barefoot Doctor, The Last Lover, and others.
