Students From the Geo Milev English Language Secondary School In Burgas Under the Confucius Institute In Sofia On a Visit To the European Parliament In Strasburg

On the 17th July 2024, a group of 37 students from the Geo Milev English Language Secondary School in Burgas have paid a visit to the European Parliament. The school prides itself on having its own Confucius Classroom under the Confucius Institute in Sofia which is an exlusive one for the town of Burgas. The visit has been initiated by an invitation from Mrs Essen Alieva – an administrator and a lecturer in the institution in Strasburg. Mrs Jacklin Neicheva – Headmistress of the school has been leading the students’ delegation.

During their visit to the Simone Veil Parlamentarium, the students have been introduced to the history of the European Parliament and the challenges faced by the latter.

Exciting discussions concerning the role the European Parliament have been hosted by Mrs Essen Alieva. The students have had the opportunity to meet and conduct talks with the Euro MPs Mrs Eva Maydell, Mr Andrey Novakov, and Mr Peter Bognar – а representative of the European Ombudsman Unit.

The student representatives of The Geo Milev English Language Secondary School in Burgas have reached the conclusion that despite the differences, the power of the united Europe lies in the possibilities for the citizens to initiate and hold discourses and to respect each other. The Bulgarian students have shared their personal opinions on decisions taken on an European level.

For the young students, a day spent at the European Parliament in Strasburg, has turned to be a day of extraordinary experience value in gaining inner understanding of the procedures at the European Parliament and the challenges associated with them. The students have found inspiration in the high expertise of their mentors Mrs Eva Maydell, Mr Andrey Novakov, Mr Peter Bognar, and Mrs Essen Alieva.
