The Confucius Institute In Sofia Have Conducted Their Board Of Directors Meeting For 2024

On 20th November 2024, the meeting of the Board Of Directors of the Confucius Institute in Sofia has been held in a hybrid (online and offline) form. Prof. Georgi Valchev – the Rector of the University of Sofia, Prof. Madlen Danova – the vice-Rector of the University of Sofia, prof. Gergana Petkova – the Head of the Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literature, Prof. Nako Stefanov – a researcher and a lecturer at the Centre For Oriental Languages And Cultures, and an Honorary Director of the Confucius Institute in Sofia from the Bulgarian side, Mr Zhao Gang – the vice - President of the Beijing Foreign Studies University, Mrs Lin Wenshuang – vice-Dean of the College For European Languages, Mr Li Jiansheng – a Professor at the College For Chinese Language, Mrs Jin Limin - the Director of the Operations Department of the Confucius Institute, Mrs Aksiniya Koleva - the Bulgarian director of the Confucius Institute in Sofia, and Prof. Chen Ying - the Chinese Director of CIS, all have attended the meeting.
Prof. Georgi Valchev has announced that Mr Zhao Gang – the vice- Rector of the Beijing Foreign Studies University, will be the new vice- President of the Board of directors. In his speech, Prof. Georgi Valchev has said that during the last year, everyone in the staff of the Confucius Institute in Sofia have united their efforts to overcome the difficulties and have achieved remarkable results. He has also expressed his hope that in the context of our era of cultural exchanges and dialogue between civilizations, both parties would strengthen their cooperation aiming at even greater results for the Confucius Institute in Sofia and deepening of the partnership between the two parties.
Mr Zhao Gang has fully affirmed the important achievements made by the Confucius Institute in Sofia in the Chinese language teaching, in the cultural activities, in the China-Bulgaria cooperation and exchanges, and has expressed his gratitute to the University of Sofia for their support as well as to all the staff of the CIS for their dedication and efforts. He has said that stepping on the threshold of the 20th anniversary of the Confucius Institute, he has been looking forward to a deeper cooperation between the two universities in the academic exchanges, in the development of academic subjects, in the talent cultivation, etc., so as to broaden the road of development of the CIS and to draw a new blueprint for the friendship between China and Bulgaria.
The Board of directors have listened to the report on the work of CIS in 2024, the work blueprint for 2025, and the financial report of Confucius Institute in Sofia.
The Confucius Institute in Sofia is one of the first model Confucius Institutes in the world. Since its establishment, they have insisted on rooting themselves in the local area and serving the local community by becoming an important platform for the Bulgarian people to learn the Chinese language and to understand the Chinese culture, as well as create a bridge of cultural communication between China and Bulgaria.
