From August 29 to 31, the Confucius Institute in Sofia was invited to participate in the 8th International Yogurt Festival in the village of Momchilovtsi. The event was attended by Zahari Sirakov, Governor of the Smolyan Region; Ivan Todorov, Chairman of the Bulgarian-Chinese Investment Development and Tourism Center; Siyka Surkova, Mayor of Momchilovtsi; as well as representatives from Bright Dairy & Food Co., Ltd., a partner at the event.
The three-day festival featured a wide range of activities, including Chinese-Bulgarian cultural performances, the “Yogurt Queen” competition, an exhibition of organic products and handicrafts, and a yogurt speed-eating contest. As part of the China Cultural Exhibition Area, the Confucius Institute in Sofia organized an engaging cultural experience workshop. The booth showcased traditional Chinese arts such as calligraphy, Chinese knots, and Beijing opera facial mask coloring. Interactive activities like learning basic Chinese, writing names in Chinese, and playing shuttlecock (jianzi) were also offered, attracting nearly a thousand local residents and tourists. The atmosphere was pleasant and lively throughout the event.
The International Yogurt Festival in Momchilovtsi was first launched in 2015, aiming to celebrate yogurt culture and promote a healthy lifestyle. Over the years, it has also become a vivid example of the friendly cooperation between China and Bulgaria. The Confucius Institute in Sofia has participated in the festival for several consecutive years, allowing the locals to explore the unique charm of Chinese language and culture while appreciating the yogurt culture.
