On February 18, Yordanka Dimitrova, Vice Principal of the 78th Secondary School "Hristo Smirnenski" in Bankya, visited the Confucius Institute in Sofia. She was received by the Bulgarian Director Aksiniya Koleva and the Chinese Director Chen Ying. The two sides held talks on collaboration in Chinese language teaching and cultural activities.
During the meeting, Bulgarian Director Aksiniya Koleva introduced the Chinese language classes at the Confucius Institute and the current status of its affiliated teaching sites. Chinese Director Chen Ying provided specific proposals and plans for organizing and developing Chinese language teaching at the school in the future. Vice Principal Yordanka Dimitrova presented the grade structure, student population, and current development of the 78th Secondary School, and expressed the school’s interest in establishing exchanges and cooperation with the Institute. Both parties reached an agreement on offering Chinese courses, with plans to incorporate Chinese into the school’s curriculum starting in the fall semester of 2026.
Following the meeting, the Bulgarian Director of the Confucius Institute in Sofia presented the vice principal of 78th Secondary School with Chinese souvenirs.
78th Secondary School in Bankya covers an area of 15,906 square meters, making it the largest secondary school on the Balkan Peninsula. Established in 1887, the school provides education from kindergarten through primary and secondary levels (Grades 1–12). It is a long-established public comprehensive school in Bulgaria.
