The Confucius Institute In Sofia And the Institute Of Balkan Studies At the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Have Signed a Memorandum Of Cooperation
On 18th March 2025, the Confucius Institute in Sofia have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Institute of Balkan Studies with a Centre for Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IBSCT). The signing ceremony has been attended by Mrs Roumiana Preshlenova - the Director of the Institute of Balkan Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), Mr Alexandar Kostov – the Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Balkan Studies, Mrs Zorka Parvanova – a corresponding academician at BAS, Mrs Aksiniya Koleva – the Bulgarian director of the Confucius Institute in Sofia, and Prof.Chen Ying – the Chinese director of CIS.
During the meeting, both sides - the Confucius Institute in Sofia and the Institute of Balkan Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences respectively, have introduced their basic situations and the characteristics of the development of their institutions, as well as their participation in the cooperation and exchange between China and Bulgaria.Both sides have unanimously expressed their opinion that they would take the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation as an opportunity to make best use of their respective advantages and to cooperate in organising academic lectures and exhibitions as well as Chinese into Bulgarian translations, book publishing, information exchange and mutual visits of delegations, so as to help the educational and cultural exchanges between Bulgaria and China.
The Institute of Balkan Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences has been established in 1964. The Institute is a renowned centre for research and education on subjects such as languages, history, culture and modern development in the Balkan region of Europe.
