On October 20, the Confucius Institute in Sofia and the China Cultural Center in Sofia jointly held the launching ceremony of the “Chinese Language + Chinese Painting” course. Nearly 40 participants attended the event, including: Mrs. Ge Lina, Director of the China Cultural Center in Sofia; Mrs. Chen Ying, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute in Sofia; teachers from the Institute; participants in the course; local fans of Chinese language and culture; etc.
In her speech, Director Ge Lina stated that the course adopts a “language teaching + cultural experience” approach, allowing participants to learn vocabulary such as “shanshui” (landscape) and “danqing” (traditional Chinese painting) while deeply appreciating the unique charm of Chinese art, which emphasizes “capturing the spirit through the form and simplifying the complex.” Director Chen Ying noted that the “Chinese Language + Chinese Painting” course is the second project jointly developed by the Confucius Institute in Sofia and the China Cultural Center in Sofia as part of the “Chinese + Art” series. The project aims to activate language learning through art and to decode the connotations of art through language. Through resource sharing and complementary strengths, both institutions work together to promote cultural exchanges between China and Bulgaria.
Confucius Institute teachers conducted on-site teaching, using the words “Chinese language” (中文) and “Chinese painting” (国画) as examples to introduce Chinese pinyin transcription and the origin of the Chinese characters. The students were enthusiastic, personally experiencing Chinese character writing under the guidance of the teachers. The interaction was lively, and the atmosphere was vibrant.
The “Chinese Language + Chinese Painting” is another innovative project jointly launched by the Confucius Institute in Sofia and the China Cultural Center in Sofia, following their previous “Chinese Language + Traditional Chinese Medicine” project. The six-week course includes both adults and children as participants, reflecting the enthusiasm of Bulgaria’s younger generation for learning Chinese language and culture.
