On February 22, the Confucius Classroom at Geo Milev English Language High School in Burgas, affiliated with the Confucius Institute in Sofia, held a flash mob performance and workshops at Mall Galleria Burgas to celebrate the 2026 Spring Festival. Nearly 300 people attended the event, including Zhaklin Neycheva, Principal of the English Language High School; vice principals Bozhidar Goranov and Krasimira Miteva; as well as teachers, students, parents, and local residents.
The event consisted of two parts: a flash-mob performance and Spring Festival-themed cultural workshops. The flash mob kicked off with a hulusi¹ performance by teachers, and was followed by students from ninth, tenth and eleventh grades studying Chinese who one by one went on stage and presented Chinese songs and ethnic dances. The atmosphere at the venue was vibrant, the audience was more excited than ever and everyone was raising their phones to take photos.
The Spring Festival-themed cultural workshops attracted many local residents. People were very excited about “Study Chinese and get a red envelope²” and were eager to give it a try; in front of the calligraphy table, many people received slips with their names written in Chinese and the Chinese character “Fu” (lit. fortune, blessing). The interactive activities Chopsticks Challenge, Lucky Slips, Paint a Lantern and other activities gave participants the opportunity to feel first-hand the unique charm of traditional Chinese culture.
Centered on the flash-mob performance and extended through cultural workshops, this event perfectly fused traditional festivals with modern flash-mob art, enhancing the interactivity and novelty of the experience. A perfect balance was achieved between the pleasant surprises of the flash mob and the orderly participation of the audience, bringing new vitality to traditional Chinese festivals within a modern commercial space.
