Chinese and Bulgarian Director of Confucius Institute in Sofia Visited Teaching Site at Secondary School of Science and Mathematics in Gabrovo

On October 12, Mrs. Aksiniya Koleva, Bulgarian Director of the Confucius Institute in Sofia, and Professor Liu Xiuming, Chinese Director, visited the teaching site at the Secondary school of science and mathematics in Gabrovo “Academician Ivan Gyuzelev”. The Principal Mrs. Tsvetana Kyumurdzhieva warmly received the two directors and they had a friendly discussion and an in-depth conversation on the current situation of Chinese teaching at the school, the development of cultural activities, and the life of the government-sponsored teacher.

The directors were very concerned about volunteer teacher Liu Zhitong’s life and work in Gabrovo. Mrs. Aksiniya Koleva asked about Ms. Liu’s housing, food and work situation. Prof. Liu told Ms. Liu to pay attention to her physical and mental health. The Confucius Institute in Sofia will always provide support for the teachers.

Accompanied by the principal and the volunteer teacher, the directors visited the Chinese classroom and listened to an introduction about the school’s Chinese language teaching and students’ learning. The two directors and the principal observed the Chinese culture class of volunteer teacher Liu Zhitong.

The two directors expressed their appreciation to the principal of Secondary School of Science and Mathematics for her active support in the establishment of Chinese teaching, expressed their gratitude for her warm reception and satisfaction with the current situation of Chinese teaching in the school, and were full of confidence in the development trend of Chinese teaching there. Prof. Liu Xiuming introduced the Chinese and foreign exchange activities organized by the Confucius Institute in Sofia, such as the "You and Me, in Beijing" Beijing Foreign Studies University summer camp activities. He welcomed students to apply and participate actively. This visit further strengthened the mutual understanding between the Confucius Institute in Sofia and the school in Gabrovo, consolidated the friendly cooperative relationship between the two parties, and laid a foundation for the sustainable development of Chinese teaching in the local area.
