On June 24, the Confucius Classroom at Burgas English Language School, affiliated with the Confucius Institute in Sofia, took part in the school's Open Day by hosting an introduction to its Chinese language courses as well as workshops on Chinese lacquer fan making and calligraphy. More than 90 participants, including seventh-grade students and their parents, as well as teachers and students from the Confucius Classroom, attended the event.
During the Chinese language courses presentation, tenth-grade student Rositsa Arabova introduced parents and prospective students to the school's Chinese language curriculum, the prospects of learning Chinese, and basic knowledge of Chinese characters. She also engaged the audience with an interactive quiz on general knowledge about China. Participants responded enthusiastically and received commemorative gifts.
At the lacquer fan and calligraphy workshops, eleventh-grade student Karina Zinovieva introduced the history and craftsmanship of traditional Chinese lacquer fans. Under the guidance of teachers, visitors created their own lacquer fans and experienced Chinese calligraphy firsthand. The vibrant colors of the lacquer fans and the expressive beauty of Chinese ink calligraphy combined to create a lively and engaging atmosphere, with enthusiastic participation throughout the event.
As an important platform for cultural exchange between China and Bulgaria in the region, the Confucius Classroom at Burgas English Language School continues to promote greater public understanding of Chinese language and culture through interactive and hands-on activities, allowing local participants to experience the richness and appeal of Chinese culture in an engaging way.
