On April 29, the Confucius Institute in Sofia was invited to participate in the 5th Science Festival in Elin Pelin Municipality. The festival is held every spring and is organized by “Vasil Levski” Secondary School in Elin Pelin. Through science demonstrations and various experiments, the event enabled students to get up close to the application of scientific knowledge and emerging technologies.
Chen Ying, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute in Sofia, was invited to attend the opening ceremony. Also present were representatives and officials from the Elin Pelin Regional Education Office of the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science, the Municipality of Elin Pelin, and other schools.
The Confucius Institute in Sofia organized a Chinese language and culture workshop, which was attended by more than 200 participants, including local teachers and students, parents, and members of the public.
During the event, the Confucius Institute in Sofia set up a workshop with rich and engaging content. Students experienced traditional Chinese cultural activities such as calligraphy, Peking Opera mask painting, paper-cutting, and Five in a Row (Gomoku). At the booth showcasing Chinese language teaching materials, students practiced reading aloud using interactive reading pens. In this way, they were able to experience Chinese pronunciation and enjoy the process of learning the Chinese language.
To align with the theme of the Science Festival, the teachers from the Confucius Institute also carefully designed a series of creative activities, including the Static Electricity Panda Experiment, Chopstick Bridge Building, and Floating Painting Art. Images of Chinese-made intelligent machinery transported via China–Europe freight trains were also displayed on site. By organically integrating cultural showcases with scientific experiments, the event attracted active participation from visitors, creating a lively atmosphere.
This is the first time the Confucius Institute in Sofia has been invited to participate in the Science Festival organized by the school. The participation fully demonstrates the strong interest of the school and local residents in learning the Chinese language and understanding Chinese culture. The Confucius Institute and “Vasil Levski” Secondary School will take this opportunity to launch cooperation in areas such as Chinese language education and cultural exchange.
