Confucius Institute in Sofia Participated in the Open Campus Day Event of the 9th French Language High School in Sofia

On May 4, the Confucius Institute in Sofia was invited to participate in the Open Campus Day event of the 9th French Language High School in Sofia. A delegation led by Chen Ying, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute in Sofia, together with representatives of the Institute’s teaching staff, visited the school and gave presentations on the jointly organized “French + Chinese” program. The event attracted nearly 60 attendees, including teachers and students from the school, prospective applicants, and parents, who visited the Confucius Institute booth for consultations. Simona Angelova, Principal of the school, and Diana Fidanova, Vice Principal for Academic Affairs, also visited the booth in person.

Director Chen Ying and teachers from the Confucius Institute introduced the school’s Chinese language curriculum plan, textbook selection, and the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), among other matters. They also presented the outcomes of the Confucius Institute’s long-running summer camps in China for secondary school students. Interactive activities such as explanations of Chinese pictographic characters and hands-on experiences with Chinese audiobooks attracted a large number of students and parents, creating a lively atmosphere.

The “French + Chinese” program has been approved by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science and has been officially included in the school’s 2026–2027 enrollment plan. It is also the first dual-foreign-language program in secondary education in Bulgaria to include Chinese, marking a pioneering initiative.

The 9th French Language High School in Sofia has a long educational history, in 1977, it became a UNESCO Associated School. As one of the largest centers for the DELF scolaire examination for secondary school students in Bulgaria, the school enjoys broad social influence.
