20260527 Confucius Classroom at No. 101 Secondary School under Confucius Institute in Sofia Held Scholarship Award Ceremony for Chinese Language Students

On May 27, the Confucius Classroom at No. 101 Secondary School, affiliated with the Confucius Institute in Sofia, held a scholarship award ceremony for students enrolled in its Chinese language classes. More than 100 people attended the event, including Vesela Ivanova, Principal of No. 101 Secondary School; Hristina Velichkova, Vice Principal; Aksiniya Koleva, Bulgarian Director of the Confucius Institute in Sofia; Chen Ying, Chinese Director of the Institute; as well as teachers, students, and parents.

During the awarding ceremony, Principal Vesela Ivanova thanked Confucius Institute in Sofia for their continuous support for the Chinese education at the school, emphasized the importance of learning multiple languages and cultures, and noted that Chinese is one of the second foreign languages offered at the school, with approximately 200 primary school students studying Chinese each year. She also announced that Chinese language instruction will be extended to the secondary school level. In her speech, Aksiniya Koleva, Bulgarian Director of the Confucius Institute in Sofia, emphasized that language is the foundation of cultural exchange. She expressed her hope that the students would maintain their enthusiasm for learning Chinese and become ambassadors of friendship between China and Bulgaria.

After the speeches, more than 50 students from Grades 3 and 4 performed eight Chinese poetry recitations in groups, showcasing the results of their learning to parents and guests. The students delivered their recitations with great emotion and in perfect unison, earning warm and continuous applause from the audience.

Subsequently, the Bulgarian and Chinese Directors of the Confucius Institute in Sofia presented Outstanding Student Scholarships to 28 students. The scholarships were established to recognize students who demonstrated outstanding performance in Chinese language classes and to encourage their motivation to learn Chinese. The scholarship program received strong support from the Bulgarian- Chinese Chamber of Commerce, further deepening cooperation between the Confucius Institute in Sofia and No. 101 Secondary School in Sofia.
