20260513 Confucius Classroom at Burgas English Language School under Confucius Institute in Sofia Held the First Chinese Language Poetry Recitation Competition

On May 13, the Confucius Classroom at Burgas English Language School under the Confucius Institute in Sofia held its first Chinese Poetry Recitation Competition. More than 50 participants attended the event, including Vice Principal Krasimira Miteva of Burgas English Language School, Chair of the Public Council Dimitrinka Zhelyazkova, as well as teachers and students from the Confucius Classroom.

The competition, themed “A Poetic Spring Day,” featured selected poems by renowned poets of the Tang Dynasty. A total of 27 students from Grades 9 to 11 registered for the event, and completed rehearsals and the draw for presentation order in early May. During the competition, contestants introduced themselves in turn, explained their original intentions for selecting the poems, recited classical poetry with standard Mandarin pronunciation, and presented explanations of the poems in English.

The competition established a Grand Prize, First, Second, Third, and Outstanding Prizes, with a total of 10 award places. After fierce competition, 11th-grade student Steliyan Iliev was awarded the Grand Prize for his recitation of “Drinking Alone under the Moon”. Vice Principal Krasimira Miteva presented the awards to all winners and extended her congratulations to them.

This competition not only provided a platform for showcasing the school’s Chinese language teaching practices and students’ learning achievements, but also promoted learning through competition, enriched the forms of cultural activities, and provided valuable practical experience for future Chinese language teaching initiatives.
