Chinese Prose Translation Competition “Words of Jade”

The Confucius Institute in Sofia is pleased to announce the launch of the annual translation competition “Words of Jade”. This year we expect your translations of modern Chinese prose published after 1979.

• The competition has no age restriction and is divided into two categories – for students and for specialists.
• The contest is anonymous.
• Each participant must send at least one translated story with length of 3000 to 15000 characters.
• The translated texts should not be published.

• The translations will be judged by an independent three-member jury consisting of two experts in Chinese literature and translation and one Bulgarian journalist and translator.

• First prize – two prizes of 500 BGN.
• Second prize – two prizes of 300 BGN.
• Third prize – two prizes of 100 BGN.
• All participants will receive a certificate;

The best translations will be published in a collection at the end of the year;

Anyone wishing to take part in the competition may send their translations in Word format, accompanied by the original text of the translated work, by 19 January 2018 to the following e-mail address:
Participants should indicate their three names, exact address, contact telephone and email, as well as whether they are students or specialists.
Awarded translations will be announced at the beginning of February. The time and place for awarding the prizes will be further reported.
